Disclaimer:
If you want to get the most out of this post you should probably be in the same setting I was in when I wrote it lest you fail to read it as dramatically as it was written and therefore miss out on the melodramatically motivational awesomeness. So if you’re ready to embark on this brief yet potentially intense lyrical journey with me, dim the lights and open this in a new tab whilst you read today’s blog.

Normally i’m all about ignoring your feelings of inadequacies and an avid encourager of  jumping on board the new idea boat with painted faces and clenched fists raised high as you shout “Ready is a myth!” and charge full speed into creative waters. But every now and then a project or idea comes along and you know it is different from the rest, special somehow.  Sometimes, in order to turn an idea into a beautiful project that has reached it’s full potential, it is better to wait. Sometimes you’re still trying to wrap up your last project and you know you won’t be able to give the new project your full attention – the attention it needs to be successful and, let’s face it, the attention it deserves because it’s just that great of an idea! Sometimes you might have all the time but you’re missing the resources.

“But what if I forever put it off and it never gets done?”
Well, that is a possibility. At the end of the day you just have to ask yourself this:

“What would I regret more? Never producing this project that means a lot to me or looking back at this project I really care about and knowing it could have been so much better if I had poured the best of me into it?”

In most cases I say do it. Paint your face. Tear your shirt. Fist Pump. Learn from it.
But in some very rare and special occasions, as much as you would like to just jump right in, if you want this project to be everything it could be, then wait.
Tie up loose project ends. Raise funds. Learn skills. Buy new gear. Do what you need to do so when the time is right, if you still carry that awesome idea in your heart, you’ll be ready.
And not just “let’s give it a shot” ready. I’m talkin’ game changer ready. “Fire-under-your-feet-wind-beneath-your-wings-red-bull-for-days-cause-you’re-up-all-night-can’t-stop-won’t-stop-shout-it-from-the-roof-tops-never-look-back” kind of ready.
